Sometimes we look the elements in the face, sometimes the elements look at our backs. Imagine huge faces puffing up towards you. Faces look where the wind blows. They are the faces of the winds. The faces change their expression from a smile to aggression and turn in any direction.
In 2013, six Faces hung for the first time on the gates of Gorky Park in Moscow. A gate is the point of transition between two worlds, the point of ambivalence. Then they were exhibited in different places and countries (Italy, France, Kazakhstan), including at the parallel Manifesta program in 2014 in St. Petersburg. The world is now once again in a crisis of division, with people aggressively choosing one side while dehumanizing and depersonalizing the other. We believe the moment has come to once again call the Faces of the Winds to show that there are living people on both sides of the border, no matter where it runs.
